Armenian Studies Summer School in Yerevan, Armenia
ARMACAD is pleased to announce its third International Armenian Language and Culture Summer School in Yerevan, Armenia to take place from July 15, 2016 to August 5, 2016. This 21 days summer school offers participants to master skills in written and oral modern Armenian, reading and interpreting Armenian texts from different periods as well as rapidly deepening their knowledge in Armenian Literature, History and Arts. During the summer school we also offer cultural trips, visits and meetings, which will transform your stay in Armenia into an unforgettable, academically oriented endeavour. The program will be launched in Geghard Monastery (12th century), famous for the religious relics kept inside its walls. The most important of such items is the spear, which wounded Christ on the Cross. Afterwards, visiting the pagan temple of Garni, the group will travel to Yerevan, and visit Ejmiatsin on the next day to take part in the Divine Liturgy. Classes will start on July 18th and will include lectures, guided site visits, thematic explorations and seminar presentations. Everyday two classes of Armenian language will be followed by one or two lectures on different topics of Armenian literature, history, anthropology, arts and culture, linguistics, political issues, etc. This school is designed for students, at least 18 years-old, who not only want to make well-grounded progress in their knowledge of the Eastern Armenian language, but also to deepen their knowledge of Armenian Studies and Armenia. It offers an intensive Armenian language course spanning 45 hours, divided into 15 days of instruction and focusing on grammar, reading, speaking, and writing. Another 24 hours is devoted to lectures on Armenian literature, history, anthropology, arts and culture, linguistics, etc. The summer school will be accompanied by 6 days of tours to Tatev Monastery, Jermuk, Echmiadzin, Garni pagan temple, lake Sevan, Ijevan, Dilijan and Tsaghkadzor, as well as daily visits to Museums, cultural and academic establishments in Yerevan. The courses are open to anyone with elementary or intermediate knowledge of the Armenian language. The lectures are organized with the academic interests of the participants in mind to ensure that BA, MA, PhD students as well as post-docs and professors who work in Armenian Studies and relevant fields can benefit from it. Teachers of Armenian are all native speakers who have experience of teaching Armenian as a foreign language. The lecturers are well-known professionals in their respective fields and will present the most interesting and intriguing topics within the field.Lectures will be held in Armenian and/or English. All participants will receive the necessary readings in Armenian and English prior to the summer school dates.
Participants may inform the organizers about their particular interests in Armenian Studies and the organizers will find a supervisor of that particular topic during the days of the summer school. Each participant will be encouraged to write a paper on a topic of interest and consult the supervisor. Participation fee is 2850 USD

This price includesaccommodation, all transportation costs in Armenia including from and to the airport, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee breaks), reading and writing materials, tours.
The program does not cover: Visa costs, travel costs to Armenia and from Armenia, any costs of accompanying friends or family members.
