It’s time for universities now

PicMonkey Collage“In order to promote the future development of Gyumri, it would be better to move to Gyumri the Yerevan State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan, Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture, Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts and Armenian State University of Economics,” RA honored architect Gurgen Musheghyan suggested at the Board’s Session of RA Urban Development Ministry. This will help to alleviate the overloading in Yerevan, as well as, to solve the problem of balancing the territorial development. The architect says there are about 61 universities in Yerevan. More than 100 000 students studying at these universities, make the 30% of public transport users. Gyumri has a great potential for culture and tourism development. Thus, the relocation of some of these universities to Gyumri may cause the rejuvenation of the city. Anyway, Arthur Martirosyan (artist and professor of Fine Arts Faculty at Yerevan State Pedagogical University), Samvel Khudoyan (psychologist and lecturer of the Department of Psychology at Yerevan State Pedagogical University) and Ferdinand Arakelyan (architect) are categorically against this project, arguing that this may bring the university system into a complete collapse.
