On February 19 Armenians celebrate the Book Giving Day. This holiday has been celebrated since 2008. The day is marked to commemorate also the birth anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan, the prominent Armenian poet and public activist, whom we used to call the “All Armenian Poet”” and “All Armenian Father”. He wrote numerous poems, novels, fables, critical and journalistic articles, ballads, many of them became the masterpieces of Armenian literature. Numerous memorials are erected to honor Tumanyan in Armenia.
Different events are organized to celebrate Book Giving Day. On this day Armenians usually like to visit various museums and theatres. Literary readings are also common for Book Giving Day. But the most important part of the day is giving and receiving books as gifts.
