Candles lit in the memory of the innocent victims of Gyumri tragedy
Armenians go on protesting asking justice for Gyumri tragedy. To remind, six members of the same family were killed in Gyumri early in the morning on January 12. A six-month baby found at the site of the crime was taken to hospital with heavy wounds in the chest. The murder – Russian soldier Valery Permyakov serving in the Russian military base in Gyumri was found near the Armenian-Turkish border and arrested on the same day. Permyakov is facing charges under Article 105.2 and 338.2 of the Russian Criminal Code (murders and desertion). He served in Russian Defense Ministry’s 102nd military base stationed in Gyumri. Russia has promised to investigate the shootings, but has so far refused to hand the soldier over to Armenian authorities. This fact caused frustration among society demanding to handover the violent killer to the Armenian law-enforcement bodies. Residents of Yerevan, Gyumri and other regions of Armenia held protest actions and candle lighting ceremony in the memory of the Avetisyan family killed in Gyumri.
